Pyramid of Success
John Wooden

25 Blocks
Block 1 Industriousness: "There is no substitute for work. Worthwhile results come from hard work and careful planning."

Image result for Enthusiasm

Block 2 Enthusiasm: "It is the engine that powers all blocks of the Pyramid. It is why I chose Industriousness and Enthusiasm as the cornerstones of my Pyramid of Success. It is where everything begins."
When you are enthusiastic you are ready to do whatever you have to do. Enthusiasm is what strives a person to complete their goals and have a fun time doing it. Enthusiasm is also very useful when you play a sport or try anything that is competitive because you will be eager to go out there and give it your best shot. An example of enthusiasm is if your teacher says that there will be a test next class. If you are enthusiastic and want to take it, you will study eagerly and when it comes to the test you will pass because you are looking forward to it and you studied.

Image result for Friendship

Block 3 Friendship "Comes from mutual esteem, respect and devotion. Like marriage it must not be taken for granted but requires a joint effort."
If you want to have more opportunists in life and want to have people you can trust and depend on you have to start to make friendships with people devoted to be successful. If you start to befriend people who do not have goals for themselves then it is likely that they will not be helpful to you or they will bring you down. You have to befriend people who have goals for themselves because if you hang out with people who want to be successful, they could influence you to do better. Also, when you have friends, they might be able to hook you up with certain things. If you want to get a job, one of your friends might know someone who is hiring. If you need help on an assignment, you can depend on a friend. But, friendships aren't a one way thing, you will also have to there when your friends need you.

Image result for Loyalty

Block 4 Loyalty "To yourself and to all those depending upon you. Keep your self-respect."

When you are loyal, it means that you always stand by someones side or your own. Being loyal means being committed to what you believe is right. A great example of being loyal is a dog, a dog is always loyal to his owner and his family. Another example of being loyal is when you are in a relationship with someone. You have to be committed to that person only and don't do anything to disrespect them. Another example of this is when a friend asks you to back them up in a certain situation and you have to be down for your friend and always have their back. But, you should always check in with your friends before you decide to do something for them because what you might believe they want might not actually be the thing they wanted. One way to be loyal to yourself is by not doing anything that will damage your body such as smoking, drinking, doing drugs, or getting tattoos. Being loyal to yourself means getting yourself the best education you can and doing what's right. Being loyal means choosing what is best for you and those around you. Being loyal is important because it will help you build relationships which are beneficial if you ever need help with anything because you can depend on those who can depend on you.

Image result for cooperation

Block 5 cooperation "With all levels of your co-workers. Listen if you want to be heard. Be interested in finding the best way, not in having your own way. "

What this means is that you need to be considerate towards others so treat others the way you would want to be treated. If you want someone to listen to you, then you must listen to them first. Always think about how the other person feels. Don't always think about your way and how you want it.

Image result for Ambition

Block 6  Ambition (For noble goals)
When you have ambition it means that you see things threw to the end. It is similart to having motivation to complete a task. When you have ambition, you have a strong desire to complete a goal you have set or someone has set for you. Ambition requires determination and hard work. This is a important block in the pyramid of success because when if you don't have ambition then it is not likely you will complete any goals. An example of where ambition would be essential is when you want to get into your dream school. Hundreds of thousands of students compete to get into one certain school and it is competative because everyone wants to strive to enter the same school so you must have ambition to tell you that you will make it into that school and you have to work hard for what you really want in life. Ambition can also be used in small situatoins. Another example of where you might see ambition is in a sport game. Everyone wants to win and the winner would most likely be the one who strives for first. Ambition is really important because ambition is the motivation we have to live our lifes.

Image result for self-control

Block 7 self-control "Practice self-discipline and keep emotions under control. Good judgement and common sense are essential."
When you have self control it means that you are able to do your work or achieve a goal without letting your emotions play a role in your accomplishments because they can bring you down. Self control is very necessary because it is unprofessional to let your emotions out when you are conducting business. An example of this can be when you are at school making a presentation. You have to remember that you have to do the best you can and not emotions play a role in your presentation because if you get mad a t a comment or react on it based on emotion it will make you look bad. You have to have control over yourself because if you don't, you won't go far in life. Self-control is one of the first skills you should develop because self-control will show you what you can and can't handle.

Block 8 Alertness "Be observing constantly. Stay open-minded. Be eager to learn and improve."

Block 9 Initiative "Cultivate the ability to make decisions and think alone. Do not be afraid of failure, but learn from it."

Block 10 Intentness "Set a realistic goal. Concentrate on its achievement by resisting all temptations and being determined and persistent."

Block 11 Sincerity (keeps friends)

Block 12 Adaptability
When you are able to adapt to any environment or situation you are put on, then you will be able to make something out of your life because not everyone can be able to do that. An example of this is when you are in a new class. The sooner you are able to adapt to a new class, the sooner you will start to learn more effectively. This skill can be compared to an animals skill in the wild to adapt. If an animal is not able to adapt to its new environment then it's likely that it will not survive. Being able to new situations will improve the chances of you being successful.

Block 13 Condition "Mental-Moral-Physical. Rest, exercise and diet must be considered. Moderation must be practiced. Dissipation must be eliminated."

To condition yourself, it means to get use to doing something. Where that means waking up at a certain time everyday or doing all your chores without being asked. This is a important skill to learn because when you are conditioned you don't have to really think about the thing you are conditioned to do. An example of this can be, doing your homework as soon as you get home. Being conditioned will keep you on track because it is almost like an automatic response to do whatever you are conditioned to do.

Block 14 Skill "A knowledge of and the ability to properly and quickly execute the fundamentals. Be prepared and cover every little detail."

Block 15 Team spirit "A genuine consideration for others. An eagerness to sacrifice personal interests of glory for the welfare of all."

When you have team spirit, you are willing to slow down your own paste to make sure you go up as a team and not as individuals. An example of team spirit is when you are playing a sport in school. If you want to show team spirit, you should be the one cheering the team up and helping them to improve. Another example is you putting yourself before the team so everyone can go up. This is a selfless act which will gain you respect from others. Being selfless for the team is one of the strongest actions you can act out that will earn you respect from the rest of the team.Team spirit means to motivate others to do well.

Block 16 Honesty (in thought and action) "Honesty is the best policy." (Ben Franklin)
Honesty is one of the most searched for character trait. To be honest means to tell the truth at all time. This does not mean to be mean to everyone and say all the things that come to mind. You should be honest when you are asked for your opinion. If you see someone do something bad, you should do what's right and be honest about what happened.

Block 17 Resourcefulness (proper judgment) “Make the most out of what you have.” (Anonymous)

When you are resourceful, it means that use what is given to you and make the most of it. This skill is one that is sometimes learned at a young age when some people have to grow up with minimum resources. Someone who is resourceful doesn't let anything go to waste. An example of being resourceful is when you use your time properly and don't waste it. When you are resourceful you are smart with the decisions you make.

Block 18 poise

When you are poise you are calm and are handling a situation in life that is going well. An example of poise is when you are taking or preparing for a test but you aren't stressing because you know all the criteria and you've been studying. Another example of being poise is when you been having a stressful day but you don't allow that to keep you down or change your mood. Being poise can improve your relationships because it is easier to make friends if you always present yourself as a positive person.

Block 19 Confidence "Thorough preparation breeds confidence" Gerald Bell in "The Carolina Way"
When you have confidence, you don't show any fear and you are not nervous. When you are confident, you feel certain about something. Confidence is something really looked for in jobs that require speeches or anything that is professional. Confidence is when you believe in yourself and over come your fear.

Block 20 Reliability (creates respect)
When you are a reliable person, it means that you are someone who is responsible and others could trust you to do something you say you will do. When you are reliable you are trustworthy of getting your part done. An example of this is when you are planning out an event. The people who are responsible for the event planning and making are people who are reliable. If an unreliable person was put to set up the event, there is a chance that they will not do there part. Reliability is very important when you are applying for a job because no one wants to hire someone who is not responsible.

Block 21 Fight (determined effort)
When I say fight as one of the blocks I don't mean it in the sense of fighting with someone to cause physical harm but to put on a challenge to prove or show you point on something. Another way that the word fight could be seen as is when you are going through a rough time but you have to fight through it and get better. An example of this is a lawyer because they fight for their clients to win.

Block 22 Competitive Greatness " Be at your best when your best is needed. Enjoyment of a difficult challenge."
When you are competitive you are showing that you are giving effort to complete your objective. Being competitive is one way to show how hard you are willing to work to outshine others.

Block 23 Integrity (purity of intention)

Block 24 Faith (through prayer) Believe and Achieve. Positive belief.

Image result for patience

Block 25  Patience (good things take time)
Having patience is an important building block in the pyramid of success because without patience, you wouldn't be able to wait for the good things in life to happen and you won't have an enjoyable life. Having patience is a great skill that someone should develop as early as they can because when you are patient, you are able to out wait other people who are also as patient as you. This can come into hand in a real life situation, such as when you are waiting in line for something. Someone who is inpatient wouldn't be able to wait in line for a long time without getting frustrated. When you are patient, you are able to enjoy life better knowing you have gotten everything you need by being patient and waiting your turn. Another example of patience is life itself. Many of the things we earn has to deal with patience. We go to college because we know that if we are patience and study rather than finding a job right out of high school, then we could get an even better career later once you've spent more time at school.

Final Reflection:
For the last two months we've been researching and learning about Building blocks for the pyramid of success and they are all very useful and fundamental to live a happy and successful life. All of the blocks are good skills that can be easily learned and applied in everyday life situations. The reason why they are so useful is because they all help you out to become a better person and character. Just missing one of these building blocks in your life could be detrimental to your success. John Wooden is the man who created the pyramid of success by living his life and seeing and learning what it takes to have success. He is a coach and he teaches all of his players these building blocks because he wants them to be the best they can be.
